If you like science and want to work in health care providing an invaluable service to patients, this might be the job for you. You use ionizing radiation, also known as X-rays, for medical imaging of internal structures of the body.
The radiography program offers a comprehensive degree option for the radiography student. The program consists of instruction in specialized courses in radiography. Classroom instruction is closely correlated with guided clinical practice in affiliated health care agencies. The program requires four consecutive semesters of full-time day commitment with an average weekly involvement of 30 hours. Students are also required to complete two evening clinical rotations sometime during the program and attend a summer term.
Some travel will be required to out-of-town clinical sites in order to provide the student a well-rounded clinical experience. Current clinical affiliates are Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Elizabethtown Diagnostic Imaging Center in Elizabethtown, Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, Springview Hospital in Lebanon, Norton Hospital and Kosair Hospital in Louisville and Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.

Radiographers hold positions in hospitals, medical testing clinics, health clinics, doctors' offices, outpatient medical centers, research laboratories and industrial firms. According to the Mayo Clinic, the starting salary for a radiographer is about $40,000 a year at large hospitals.
