Admissions Guidelines

  1. Apply to ECTC. There is no fee to apply. New, returning, and/or transfer students will need to submit an application for admission. Here’s how to apply. Once your application has been fully processed, we will mail your Admissions Checklist regarding completing the enrollment process. You will also receive information regarding new student orientation and student registration.

  2. Apply for Financial Aid. You must be a high school graduate before you may receive federal financial aid or use your KEES funds.
  3. Submit Test Scores. Students with ACT scores below 18 in English, 19 in math, and/or 20 in reading must take the appropriate KYOTE/COMPASS test. The KYOTE and COMPASS tests are PLACEMENT exams to determine college/course readiness. You will want to do your best to ensure you are placed in the appropriate level of courses. Placement testing is available every Monday from 9am-5pm and Tuesday-Thursday from 9am-2pm. No appointment is necessary and your first test is free of charge. You will need to bring a photo ID and your student ID number to The Assessment Center, in room 129 of the RPC Building. See Placement Testing for more information.

  4. Submit Transcripts. All students are required to submit their final high school transcript or GED scores and official/sealed transcripts from all colleges attended. It is not necessary to submit transcripts from other KCTCS institutions.

  5. Attend Orientation. All students are required to complete orientation, but have 3 options!
    1. BUILD: Barons Undergraduate Information Learning Days (on campus sessions)
    2. Schedule an appointment with our Advising Center, call (270) 706-8695.
    3. Complete the online orientation and orientation exam from your personal computer.

  6. Register for Classes. All applicants are required to submit ALL required admission documentation PRIOR to registering for classes. Students with complete admission files may schedule classes when they attend BUILD or meet with an advisor in the Advising Center. Students electing to complete orientation online must schedule classes during registration. See academic calendar for registration schedule.

  7. Buy your Books. You will need a copy of your schedule of classes to purchase books in the ECTC Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Students using Financial Aid to purchase books must wait until 10 days before the start of their class to charge books and must wait 48 hours after registering for classes to purchase books.   8. Pay Tuition and Fees. When you register for classes, it is YOUR responsibility to drop your classes if you’re not going to attend. Tuition is automatically assigned upon enrollment. Call or visit the Business Office in room 107 of the RPC for payment options. Payment arrangements must be made before the start of classes. See academic calendar for tuition deadlines.
