Q. What is a learning style? top
A. It is a blend of characteristics which helps describe the preferred way for a person to learn something new. Because there are different degrees of each characteristic, they are as many different combinations of styles as there are different people. The categories described by Berry’s Learning Styles Assessment are merely general descriptions about individuals. A person is not confined to certain behavior and can change their style if they so choose or their style may alter as they age. |

Q. Why use a learning style assessment? top
A. The more we know about ourselves, the better we can adapt to the things we want to do in our lives. Having some idea about how we learn helps us choose tools and environments that will make the learning process as natural for us as possible. For students, it gives them greater success with and control over their study environment. For educators, it provides insight for being more effective and helping students help themselves. |

A. Overall, the better you know yourself and the more you know about the various facets of your personality, the better prepared you are to face whatever life might bring. You can improve your grades in an educational setting, your productivity in a work environment and your empathy in relationships. All of these improvements can help you reach your goals more quickly and easily. |

Q. How does the assessment evaluate my learning style? top
A. Like most assessments, the way you answer the questions determines the final result. If you are honest in your answers, the description based upon the results of the assessments should describe you. If it doesn’t describe you in a general way, you may need to read another description or take the assessment over, answering more honestly. |

Q. Will my learning style remain the same over my lifetime? top
A. Please remember that this is a preferred learning style. It does not necessarily lock you into only one way of learning things. With effort and flexibility you may be able to adjust your learning style preference. Some learners are so extreme in their preferences that they must adapt their learning style or not reach their goals. |

Q. Can I use this assessment on children? top
A. While this assessment was originally created for adults and perhaps adolescents, there is no reason it cannot be used on younger children as long as they can read and understand the questions. By reading the characteristics of the different styles, some parents may be able to identify a style without the child taking the test. However, taking the assessment is a more dependable way of identification. |

Q. In what way can this assessment be used besides learning in school? top
A. Understanding how people relate to others, intake information and process information can be very valuable to employers, family and other professionals. Counselors can have an idea of the flexibility of their clients and whether they have a rigid or flexible perspective on issues. Family members can better understand the behavior of others such as being late, being messy or extremely neat, needing activity or not finishing projects. |

Q. May I get copies of my students' profiles once they have completed an assessment? top
A. The assessments results may only be printed or emailed by the respondents. If you would like to collect responses, you will need to ask the respondent to provide that information to you by printing out and handing-in the hard copy or emailing you the results for your review. |
