Announcements and Changes
On September 14, 2015, President Obama announced significant changes to the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process that will impact millions of students. Starting with the 2017-2018 application cycle, the following changes will be put in place:
- Submit a FAFSA earlier: Students will be able to submit a 2017-2018 FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016, rather than beginning on January 1, 2017. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit their FAFSAs as early as October 1 every year. (There is NO CHANGE to the 2016-2017 schedule. The 2016-2017 FAFSA became available January 1, 2016.)
- Use earlier income and tax information: Beginning with the 2017-2018 FAFSA, students will report income and tax information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017-2018 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income and tax information, rather than their 2016 income and tax information.

Important Dates for Forms
Loan Adjustment Forms:
- April 7, 2017 - Last date to submit a Loan Adjustment request/change for a Spring 2017 loan.
- April 7, 2017 - Last date to submit a completed Recalculation request for Spring 2017.
Financial Aid Disbursement Dates
The Financial Aid Office cannot guarantee the arrival or disbursement of funds.
- All dates are tentative and subject to change and are based in part on the student start date.
- Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid at least 3 months prior to the start of the semester.
- Disbursements of financial aid may be delayed, reduced and/or cancelled based on recorded student attendance in class.
- A student must attend class to establish eligibility for pending financial aid awards.

New Processes and Procedures
Unusual Enrollment History Review
Effective 2013-14, the U.S. Department of Education will select students with an unusual enrollment history in cases where the student received Federal Pell Grants at multiple institutions in recent years.
The student's FAFSA will reflect any unusual enrollment history and the Financial Aid Office will be required to review enrollment history to determine whether or not the student enrolled only long enough to receive refunds of Federal Student Aid. If the student received the Federal Pell Grant and credit hours (passing grades: A-D) were not earned at each institution during these award years, the student may be determined ineligible for Federal Financial Aid.
If a student is deemed ineligible the student may submit a written appeal and documentation to explain the lack of earned academic credit at each institution previously attended. The Financial Aid Office will review the information to determine if the student may be placed on an academic plan of action and receive financial aid or if the student will be denied financial aid.
New Pell Grant Lifetime Limits
New Federal regulations require that beginning Fall 2012, students are now limited to 12 semester (or 600%) of Federal Pell Grant eligibility during their lifetime. This change affects all students regardless of when or where they received their first Federal Pell Grant.
Whether you have used all of your Pell Grant eligibility or not, please be conscious about the lifetime limit of the Pell Grant when changing majors and/or scheduling classes.
New Consent to Release
We now have available within PeopleSoft student self-service a Consent to Release form that will allow students to authorize release of his/her KCTCS records to up to three individuals. The consent to release does specify what type of information (Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and/or Academic Records) can be released.
Financial Aid Process 2016-2017 Award Year
If you will be attending ECTC for the Fall 2016, Spring 2017 or Summer 2017 term(s) and would like to receive Financial Aid, you must do the following:
- Complete the 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- List our school code 001991
- You should file this as early after January 01, 2016 as possible.
- The 2016-2017 FAFSA form cannot be submitted to the Department of Education after June 30, 2017.
- Have a current application for Admission or Current Registration on file.
- Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress according to federal and institution guidelines.
- Provide the ECTC Financial Aid Office with information regarding any 3rd Party Financial Resources such as Scholarships, Employer Assistance, etc.
- Submit any additional documentation requested by the Financial Aid Office.
- Understand the chart below regarding tuition payment deadline and financial aid awards:

Please Note: To maximize aid opportunities, students should file their FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1st (every year).
After you have a FAFSA on file, it will take approximately 10-14 business days for us to review and respond to your request for financial aid. "End of Term Processing" can delay aid awards for students at Warning or Probation status.
If your SAP status is evaluated to be in 'NOT MEETS' or 'SUSPENDED' you will not be eligible for financial aid unless an appeal approval is granted.
