Arts & Humanities
About the Division of Arts & Humanities
The Division of Arts & Humanities at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College spans nine academic disciplines including Art History, Communication, English, Foreign Language, History, General Humanities, Music, Philosophy & Religious Studies, and Developmental Reading and Writing. These disciplines serve students by offering General Education courses, courses that fulfill the Additional Associate in Arts Requirements, and courses that fulfill freshman and sophomore-level major requirements in the Arts and Humanities’ disciplines.
Arts & Humanities exists to provide students with a broad-based general education, fitting them for success at transfer institutions and in the workforce, and shaping them into rational citizens. Educational requirements and opportunities in Arts & Humanities enable students to explore the various ways the human experience, throughout many cultures, has been and is expressed through art, literature, philosophical and historical inquiry, and various forms of oral and written communication. Arts & Humanities challenges students to develop critical thinking skills and to develop the ability to analyze and evaluate information. Essentially, students will emerge from Arts & Humanities classes having learned how to learn and how to continue learning.
