MIKE BURRESS

Retired, Executive Director, Lincoln Trail Area Development District

Mike Burress first connected with Elizabethtown Community and Technical College as a first-generation college student. It’s a connection that has grown throughout his career as a regional planning and development leader.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to succeed. ECC certainly prepared me to continue in undergraduate and graduate studies,” Burress said of his first two years of college.

As executive director of the Lincoln Trail Area Development District (LTADD), Burress’ work included aging services, workforce development and economic development in an eight-county region. Joining the ECTC Foundation Board, he said, was a natural fit as both organizations “have the pulse of the region and the regional workforce.”

“Our region needs a college that continues to grow while remaining flexible enough to meet the needs of students,” Burress said. “The resources are here and we can lay a foundation that provides more students an opportunity to access higher education.”

A Hardin County native, Burress has served as an officer of the Communicare Board of Directors and the city of Elizabethtown’s Historic Preservation Commission. He also serves as treasurer at his church, Severns Valley Baptist Church.

He and his wife, Judy, live in Elizabethtown and have three children and two grandchildren.
