Distinguished Alumni Spotlight: Susan Simmons

Our Distinguished Alumni Spotlight features recent award winners who’ve been recognized as part of ECTC’s annual Profiles of Excellence Dinner. Our winners are nominated for their notable influence and determination over time throughout their profession, family, and community. Nominations are reviewed and selected by the ECTC President’s Cabinet and Departmental Division Chairs. These individuals are the true embodiment of the many ways ECTC leads to better lives, and it’s an honor to share their stories.

Susan Simmons currently serves as Executive Vice President and Human Resource Director for Central Bank of Lexington. Previously, she filled the same role for First Federal Savings Bank of Elizabethtown.

In 2003, the Elizabethtown Society for Human Resource Management was chartered under her leadership. She has also been an active member of the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management’s State Council, holding various roles, including the Chair position. Simmons is a graduate of Leadership Elizabethtown and has served on multiple boards, such as Feeding America, LexArts, Hardin County Relay for Life, and Junior Achievement.

Simmons attended Elizabethtown Community and Technical College from 1983 to 1985, earning an associate’s degree in business management, and was named the Outstanding Business Student of the Year. She recalls that she was originally on a secretarial track when two instructors pulled her aside to say they recognized strong management skills within her and encouraged her to change majors. To this day, Simmons continues to prove them right.

Simmons credits her instructors at ECTC with instilling in her the desire and confidence to seek a leadership role. To current students, she offers this advice. Be willing to accept criticism, make adjustments, and watch yourself flourish.

ECTC’s Distinguished Alumni Program recognizes graduates and former students for their successes and exemplary service to their professions and communities. Nominees must have completed a credential (degree, diploma and/or certificate) from ECTC, or have been enrolled as a student at ECC/ETC/ECTC, at least five years ago. Self-nomination is permitted. Active members of the ECTC faculty and staff are not eligible for consideration. To nominate someone, fill out the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Nomination Form.
