Distinguished Alumni Spotlight: Mary Lynn Stein

Our Distinguished Alumni Spotlight features recent award winners who’ve been recognized as part of ECTC’s annual Profiles of Excellence Dinner. Winners are nominated for their notable influence and determination over time throughout their profession, family, and community. Nominations are reviewed and selected by the ECTC President’s Cabinet and Departmental Division Chairs. These individuals are the true embodiment of the many ways ECTC leads to better lives, and it’s an honor to share their stories.

Mari Lynne Stein is an Accreditation Consultant and Registered Nurse for Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Florida where she lives with her two children, Sophia, aged 14 and Wyatt, 11. Within her career as a nurse, she has worked across the country from Honolulu, Hawaii to Baltimore, Maryland. She gives credit to each of her previous roles for shaping her into the nurse and leader she is today. Stein currently serves in the Quality Department, where she collaborates to identify areas for improvement and creates corrective action plans to ensure regulatory compliance.

She graduated from ECTC in 2008 with her Associate Degree in Nursing, then acquired her bachelor’s and master’s degrees by 2020. During her free time, she is committed to personal fitness and learning to balance on a stand-up paddleboard.

During her time at ECTC, she fondly remembers the tough love of Professor Martha Glutting as one of the main reasons she was able to graduate from the nursing program. After receiving a failing grade, Professor Glutting challenged Mari to recognize her own potential, reapply to the nursing program, and she ultimately moved on to have a successful nursing career.

To current students at ECTC, Mari advises them to “do the things that make you uncomfortable, because being uncomfortable is where we find our strength and truly begin to grow.”

ECTC’s Distinguished Alumni Program recognizes graduates and former students for their successes and exemplary service to their professions and communities. Nominees must have completed a credential (degree, diploma and/or certificate) from ECTC, or have been enrolled as a student at ECC/ETC/ECTC, at least five years ago. Self-nomination is permitted. Active members of the ECTC faculty and staff are not eligible for consideration. To nominate someone, fill out the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Nomination Form.
