VEX Robotics Team Wins Gold
ECTC’s VEX U Robotics team qualified for World Competition by winning gold in a tournament at Auburn University in January. Five students representing ECTC beat teams from Clemson, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Auburn, and Haimsville Community College in six matches during the tournament. VEX teams are given a year to design, construct and program robots that will meet the challenges each new contest presents.
Marty Sutherland, VEX Team advisor and Engineering and Electronics Technology Program Coordinator, said, “VEX competition helps students develop essential life and work skills. They learn teamwork, how to work and make decisions under pressure, communication skills, and problem-solving strategies. These students will be excellent employees when they enter the workforce.”
The team will compete in a tournament against 18 teams at Purdue University in February to help them prepare for the World Competition in April. Last year ECTC’s team came in fourth in the world, competing against teams from the U.S., Central and South America, Europe, and Asia.
