Melanie Roides Art Exhibit in Morrison Gallery
ECTC’s Morrison Gallery Features Paintings & Calligraphy by Melanie Roides
February 24 – March 26, 2020
Closing Reception: Thursday, March 26 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM
There’s a new exhibit in Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Morrison Gallery, featuring paintings and calligraphy by Melanie Roides. Roides studied art at the Medway College of Design (just outside London, England), before moving to Germany to work as an artist for the U.S. Army. Using graphic design, she created reenlistment posters and military insignia (approved by the U.S. Institute of Heraldry). As a calligrapher, she penned certificates of promotion.
In 1989 Roides and her husband, Paul, moved to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, where she practiced as a free-lance artist. She then returned to college and attended Elizabethtown Community & Technical College before earning her Master's Degree in Humanities from the University of Louisville. Roides recently joined the studio of Cindy Overall (who studied art in Florence, Italy). She has always loved traveling and taking photographs. She paints from these photographs to recapture a sense of being there. Her paintings reflect her perceptions.
