Message from the President
Published on Jan 26, 2021
2020 was a year like no other.
2020 and COVID-19 challenged each and every one of us beyond any expectation.
Despite these challenges, our COMMITMENT to our mission, our students, our faculty and staff, and our communities empowered us to higher levels of service than ever.
Our commitment to health and safety, always a priority, literally became a matter of life and death. Our policies and procedures reflected that commitment, with masks, social distancing, extensive sanitizing, and creative options for delivering classes and training for our students.
Our commitment to providing opportunities for students to dream and achieve their goals was boosted by the generosity of donors who saw a need and helped students through exceptional circumstances, providing funds that may have kept the lights on or a roof overhead. Their generosity made the difference between students sticking it out or being forced to drop out because of financial hardship.
Our commitment to student success was obvious in the way that faculty and staff stepped up to personally mentor students whose lives were in upheaval when the virus struck its first blow. All classes that could be taught online went virtual, and students who suddenly needed to learn to navigate an online class had the support of expert staff. Classes that required in-person time were scheduled with a priority on safety and social distancing.
Our commitment to our future workforce was evident as our allied health students became the frontline workers in saving lives and our new Greater Knox Coding Academy trained IT specialists for careers supporting our national defense.
Finally, our commitment to our communities also was strengthened as we challenged area leaders to follow the “E-Town Example” to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all we do.
ECTC is committed to adding value to the lives of our students and being a pathway to a better life. After a year like 2020, we are more committed than ever.
