The office of cultural diversity at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will host Creating Opportunities for Diversity in Education (CODE) on Feb. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. The virtual event will assist minority high school seniors in cracking the code to affording college and applying for scholarships, succeeding in college and enrolling in Fall 2021 classes.
“CODE was created initially to encourage minority students that they can and will find success at ECTC.” said Director of Cultural Diversity Jerisia Lamons. “We’re here to provide students with the resources they need and give them a solid foundation to launch a successful journey into higher education.”
CODE will feature breakout sessions for guardians and seniors with information and opportunities to speak with staff from various college offices including admissions, financial aid, advising and the Educational Opportunity Center, guiding future students to a path to success. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend with their students.
CODE participants will receive ongoing support after the event. Students will have access to consistent one-on-one support and connections to support services, both on and off campus, that will help eliminate barriers to success.
“Too often, difficulties outside of the classroom hinder students from performing at their best,” Lamons said. “The connections students form at CODE will give them a cohort to lean on throughout their time at ECTC and to celebrate with when they’ve completed their degree.”
