ECTC awarded $272K grant for Educational Opportunity Center

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) has been awarded a grant of $272,753 per year for an anticipated five years to fund the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) at the college. The grant is awarded by the U.S. Department of Education for the Educational Opportunity Centers Program.

The EOC’s goal is to increase the number of adults and new high school graduates in the region attending college by providing supportive services including academic advising, career counseling and college admissions assistance. Financial aid counseling is also an important service as center staff educate participants about their financial aid options and help them develop basic financial planning skills.

“Continued grant funding for the Educational Opportunity Center at ECTC provides the kind of support that makes all the difference for new college students, including those who are first-generation students or facing financial barriers,” said ECTC Chief Student Affairs Officer Dale Buckles. “We are very proud to earn this competitive grant and offer these valuable services.”

Each year, EOC serves 1,000 residents of the ECTC service area, which includes Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson Taylor and Washington counties. The center’s staff provides free services on ECTC campuses and throughout the region.

“We are thrilled to receive the grant and continue helping residents of this region realize that they can attain the education and training they need to advance in their existing careers or start the careers they want,” said Stacey Bishop “Whether you’re starting college or going back to college, our staff is here to help you succeed.”
