Metallica Scholar: Brian Thomas Long

After 18 years working in the same place, ECTC industrial maintenance student and Metallica Scholar Brian Thomas Long decided he needed a change.

“I wanted to get a degree so I wouldn’t have to go somewhere else and start at the bottom,” he said.

Long is from Taylor County, so ECTC’s Springfield campus is close to both his home and work.

“It’s a small campus, the administration and instructors are great, and I like the atmosphere,” he said.

Long has been married for nearly 20 years and he hopes to inspire his three adult children to finish their own education. Becoming a Metallica Scholar will help.

“I want them to see me achieve a goal,” he said. “Earning this scholarship allows me to change careers, and that’s what I’m after.”
