Scholarship donor Terry Owens met student scholarship recipient Gabrielle Reevey earlier this month.

The JoDa TyO Family Scholarship was created by Raymond Jr., Courtney and Terry Owens in 2022 to memorialize the life of their grandmothers and great-grandmothers, Mary Jones, Katy Davis, Viola Tyler and Elizabeth Owens. Two $1,250 scholarships are awarded annually to students with unmet financial need from Hardin or Meade counties.

“This scholarship is an important opportunity to honor the determination of our maternal heroes,” said Terry Owens. “These women provided opportunities for future generations that they themselves weren’t able to grab hold of and I hope this scholarship can provide opportunities for generations to come.”

John Hardin High School graduate and ECTC business student Gabrielle Reevey was awarded $1,250 for the 2022-23 academic year. Reevey said the scholarship has helped make her post-secondary education attainable.

“Scholarships like this one and low tuition at ECTC have made college more affordable,” Reevey said.

ECTC makes applying for scholarships easier than ever. By submitting just one scholarship application, students will be considered for multiple awards, eliminating the need to apply for individual scholarships with the institution. Applicants will be automatically matched to scholarships for which they met the criteria.
