Elizabethtown Community and Technical College's (ECTC) chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society received high honors at this year’s Spring 2023 state meeting held in Ashland. In total, ECTC PTK received eight awards for the chapter, individual chapter members and advisors.

“Our ECTC family is incredibly proud of not only the honors this chapter has received but the hard work and drive for excellence they display in their work on campus and around the world,” said Kevin Parrett, ECTC PTK advisor.

Among the chapter awards were the Honor’s in Action award, earning the chapter second place in the state, only fractions of a point behind Owensboro Community and Technical College’s chapter. Also, the $1,000 Mellon Foundation Grant award, given to only three chapters in the state. The local chapter also reached five-star status, only accomplished by five of the 22 chapters in the state.

Honorable mention was also given to ECTC’s chapter college project of collecting used books for fundraising and distributing to those in lesser developed countries around the world. Villages in Zambia, Africa have benefited from this project, receiving books.

Chapter President Kyle Kuenn received the Excellence in Leadership Award while Chapter Vice President John Mascerenas received the Leadership Award. Together, they received first place in the Distinguished Officer Team category for demonstrating an exceptional atmosphere of teamwork, leadership abilities, and enthusiasm for the society’s hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service.

PTK advisors Miky Wright and Kevin Parrett each received the Distinguished Advisor Award, given to advisors who demonstrate an exceptional atmosphere of teamwork, leadership abilities, promotion of Phi Theta Kappa programming and other engagement in the society, and enthusiasm for the society's Hallmarks. Parrett and Wright also received the Horizon Advisor Award, given to advisors who participate in regional and international programs, attaining new levels of achievement in PTK programs.

Kuenn and Mascarenas also received PTK Hallmark Awards at the National PTK Conference for Distinguished Chapter Officer Team 2023.
