Nucor Steel Brandenburg invests $125,000 in Home for Hope at ECTC

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) announced today that Nucor Steel Brandenburg has donated $125,000 to support the Home for Hope campaign to build an on-campus Family Scholar House facility for student parents attending ECTC.

“Nucor has made significant investments in our college and community since the beginning of their expansion into Brandenburg,” said ECTC President and CEO Dr. Juston Pate. “Not only will this donation help break cycles of poverty for student-parents, but the housing program will also provide a path to high-wage manufacturing careers that benefit the entire region.”

The investment advances ECTC, the ECTC Foundation and Family Scholar House’s plans for a 48-unit apartment facility to address housing insecurity of student parents. Without stable housing, students face a significant barrier to the successful completion of degrees and credentials needed for workforce participation and advancement. Students pursuing education in high-demand fields, including advanced manufacturing, will receive priority for the housing program, helping meet the region’s growing workforce needs.

“We have enjoyed a strong partnership with ECTC since our Nucor Steel Brandenburg project was announced in 2019. We’re grateful to be able to contribute to the Home for Hope campaign, which will help students who are parents succeed in completing their degrees. Our contribution is part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our team lives and works,” said Vice President and General Manager of Nucor Brandenburg Chris Rice.

The facility will be located on ECTC’s Elizabethtown campus across the parking lot from the James S. Owen Humanities Building. Construction is on track to begin in spring 2024.
