West Point Bank, Brandenburg Telephone Company donate $250,000 for student parents at ECTC

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) announced today that West Point Bank and Brandenburg Telephone Company have each donated $125,000 to support the Home for Hope campaign to build an on-campus Family Scholar House facility for student parents attending ECTC.
“West Point Bank and Brandenburg Telephone Company share our vision for a community where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their educational goals, regardless of the challenges they face,” said ECTC President and CEO Dr. Juston Pate. “We appreciate their belief in the importance of unlocking the potential of our region’s workforce by addressing non-academic barriers like housing.”
The investment advances ECTC, the ECTC Foundation and Family Scholar House’s plans for a 48-unit apartment facility to address housing insecurity of student parents. Without stable housing, students face a significant barrier to the successful completion of degrees and credentials needed for workforce participation and advancement. Students pursuing education in high-demand fields, including advanced manufacturing, will receive priority for the housing program, helping meet the region’s growing workforce needs.
“West Point Bank, Brandenburg Telephone Company, and ECTC have been working closely to keep our local talent local, so the Home for Hope campaign was a perfect opportunity to provide affordable housing to parents who may otherwise be unable to attend college. This partnership builds on our investment in the University Center at ECTC, which will allow students to complete their baccalaureate degree right here in our community. It’s exciting for our organizations to be part of such transformative change that will impact families for generations,” said General Manager for Brandenburg Communications Family of Companies Allison Willoughby. Willoughby also serves on the ECTC Foundation Board of Directors.
The facility will be located on ECTC’s Elizabethtown campus across the parking lot from the James S. Owen Humanities Building. Construction is on track to begin in spring 2024.
