TRIO Grant Update

  • Currently, we have eight TRIO grants available that bring in approximately $5 million.
  • The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) Grant will be up for rewrite next year.
    • Worked with 1,361 students during the 2023-24 academic year.
    • Worked with students across 10 counties.
    • More than 85.8% students were first-generation, low-income.
    • Worked with over 500 seniors.
    • This year’s demographics:
      • 935 – first-generation, low income
      • 167 – first-generation only
      • 166 – other
      • 92 – low-income only
    • 550 participants applied for financial aid.
    • EOC office helped 588 students get enrolled in the post-secondary programs of their choice.
    • Our counselors canvassed detention centers in Hardin, Grayson, Breckenridge, and Marion counties.  Our counselors have begun attending prereleases in Taylor, Nelson, and LaRue counties.  A total of 343 participants were served at these facilities.
  • Student Support Services Grant:
    • Serving 185 students eligible by federal guidelines
    • At least 80% of our participants must persist from one academic year to the beginning of the next or complete a postsecondary program of study.  Our persistence rate is currently 91%.
    • 92.97% of participants are in good academic standing.
    • 32.4% of participants earned a 3.5 GPA or greater, placing them on the Dean’s List.
    • Time spent in service – 128,744 minutes
  • Upward Bound Math and Science Trio Program:
    • Serves to help first-generation, low-income high school students achieve their college dream.
    • Program goals: recruit 60 students every academic year; two-thirds of our students must be low-income, first-generation students.
    • Focus of program: support our high school students with academic counseling, tutoring, and year-round STEM related programming to improve college enrollment and success.
    • Objectives:
      • 43% of participants served will have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
      • 38% of participants will achieve at the proficient level on state assessments in reading/language arts and math.
      • 81% of participants will continue in school for the next academic year at the next grade level OR will have graduated from secondary school with a regular diploma.
      • 22% of participants will complete a rigorous secondary school program of study and graduate from high school in the year they were expected to graduate upon entry into Upward Bound.
      • 56% of participants will enroll in a program of post-secondary education by the fall term immediately following their high school graduation OR have a letter of acceptance but deferred enrollment until the spring semester.
      • 47% of participants will attain either an associate or bachelor's degree within six years following high school graduation.
    • School supported include LaRue County High School, Nelson County High School, North Hardin High School, Thomas Nelson High School and Washington County High School.
    • Currently, the UBMS program serves 50 students and are working to increase that number to at least 60.

  • Cabinet members were asked to review the elected and appointed committee lists provided by the Vice President of Academic’s office and send any revisions to Emily Allen and/or Christine Taylor.

Lockdown Procedures

  • Brent Holsclaw reviewed with Cabinet members the final version of the Lockdown Procedures that were developed after the August 19 lockdown. The Lockdown Procedures will be shared with employees during the October 25 campus-wide meeting.

ECTC’s “Big Ask”

  • Cabinet members brainstormed a “Big Ask” for ECTC to make to the system office/legislators.
