AMAP hosts Internship Interview Day
ECTC and the AMAP team hosted Internship Interview Day on Sept. 20. This event was
one of many programs that the Advanced Manufacturing Accelerator Project team has
partnered with ECTC to create a pipeline of talent to industry partners in the surrounding
area.
Internship Interview Day is part of the new Immersive Learning Internship Model (ILIM)
that the AMAP team developed by listening to students, instructors and employers about
how they want to help each other meet their educational and employment goals. The
students and employers who participate in this program agree on specific student focused
standards that ensure students earn a competitive intern wage, that their college
schedule is a priority and that employers will agree to provide a hands-on work experience
in the student's chosen education pathway.
Seventeen ECTC students participated in a round-robin style interview event. Five
different employers spent 15-20 minutes interviewing students from a variety of Advanced
Manufacturing pathways.
“I was pleased and excited about the number of students who attended, and I am eager
to see how this program grows when other students and employers hear about our success
at the first AMAP Internship Interview Day,” said AMAP Director Eileen Worthington.
The Advanced Manufacturing Accelerator Project is a $1.9 million program funded by
the U.S. Department of Education’s Rural Postsecondary Economic Development grant.
The program was created to promote advanced manufacturing career pathways for students
from Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington counties.
AMAP and ECTC also have partnered to provide VEX Robotics professional development and kits for secondary schools. Additionally, the AMAP team
collaborated with industry partners to create paid externships for teachers in Meade and Grayson counties.
AMAP is always open to new employer partnerships. From presenting at career fairs,
to serving on the programs advisory board, there are a number of ways for industries
to get involved. For more information, contact AMAP Director Eileen Worthington at
