Important Information

Beginning December 17, 2021: The Department of Veterans Affairs will require all Post 9/11 GI Bill® recipients to verify their enrollment monthly. Visit the VA Verification of Enrollment webpage for information about what the new requirement means for you! Options will include Opt-in for text verification or call 1-888-442-4551 to verify.

Important information for students to know

The following information is a general listing of important topics for veteran students so that they may better understand the policies and procedures required to attain their benefits.

Section 702 (The Choice Act)

Kentucky and ECTC are in compliance with Section 702 (The Choice Act) for in-state resident rate requirement.  If you are receiving VA education benefits and are being charged out-of-state tuition, please contact us immediately to resolve this matter.

Isakson and Roe Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 Section 1005

This section removes the requirement for covered individuals to enroll in a course at a public institution of higher learning within three years of being discharged to receive in-state tuition. This goes into effect August 1, 2021. All students using VA Educational Benefits will be granted in-state tuition rates. A copy of the student’s Certificate of Eligibility, Status Sheet, or Award Letter will suffice.

Online Classes

Remedial or deficiency courses cannot be taken online. These classes must be taken in a classroom. The Department of Veterans Affairs will not pay for remedial, refresher, or deficiency classes taken online.

Full-Time Status for 8-Week Advantage

Very Important: Effective Fall 2021: 8-Week Advantage changes the vast majority of ECTC classes from a 16-week format to an eight-week format. The traditional 16-week semester includes two eight-week sessions. To ensure you are enrolled as a full-time student, you must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours in each 8-week session.  If you have any questions/concerns regarding your enrollment status, please contact the MIlitary and Veteran Services Center at 270-706-8815, ECTCMVS@kctcs.edu, or in room 108 RPC Building as soon as possible so you will be able to make schedule adjustments if necessary.

Regarding Books

Some classes have digital textbooks tied to tuition. If you are a dependent or spouse and use the KDVA tuition waiver, this waiver does not cover these digital book fees.

College Navigator

College Navigator is a tool for students to aid in the selection of schools and training programs.

Verification of Enrollment

Student receiving benefits under Chapters 30 and 1606 must verify their enrollment at the end of each month enrolled in classes. You can do so by going online to https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave or by calling the toll free line at 1-877-823-2378.
