SWEDA donates $1,000 toward ECTC Springfield welding class

Springfield-Washington County Economic Development Authority has donated $1,000 to Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Springfield campus to support a new welding for maintenance class. The gift will help ECTC offer local training opportunities in career paths that are growing in the region, building a stronger, highly skilled workforce.
“Providing welding courses at ECTC in Springfield will offer training close to home while leading to a wide variety of careers in industrial maintenance, supporting the region’s growing manufacturing workforce,” said SWEDA Executive Director Daniel Carney.
The new welding for maintenance class provides foundational instruction for students to weld using SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and Oxy-Fuel processes so once students enter the workforce, employers can train employees more quickly to their specific methods. The new class will serve up to 80 students per year. The goal is to raise $10,000 for operation expenses.
“ECTC can do much more when we partner with donors like Springfield-Washington County Economic Development Authority,” said ECTC Springfield Campus Administrative Coordinator Heather Reynolds. “ECTC looks forward to expanding services in our area with the community’s help. As our region grows, we desire to offer local options to strengthen our workforce and positively impact our region.”
Community members and organizations are invited to give a one-time or monthly gift to support the welding for maintenance class at ECTC's Springfield campus. For more information, contact Dr. Megan Stith at 270-706-8721 or megan.stith@kctcs.edu.
