ECTC Toy Box Theatre presents Silly Tales

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Toy Box Theatre will present a collection of stories from all around the world for audiences of all ages. Four morning performances will be offered for visiting schools, and an evening performance at 6:30 p.m. April 18 will be open to the public. Admission is $2 per person. Children ages 3 and under are free.

Silly Tales from the Toy Box, directed by ECTC’s communication and theater professor Katrina Eicher, is a story of silly people and animals. These family-friendly classics will come to life on stage in the Science Auditorium on ECTC’s Elizabethtown campus. The show’s running time is approximately 45 minutes.

This year, the Toy Box Theatre will celebrate its 24th production. Started at Elizabethtown Community College in 1998 by Eicher, the cast is comprised entirely of college students, many first-time actors, who enroll in the class to gain performance experience and reach out to the community.

Many area elementary schools travel to the campus to enjoy a performance during a field trip during the daytime performances. During its long, rich history, Toy Box Theatre has performed for over 11,000 people.

“Our goal is to encourage imagination in our young audiences,” Eicher said. “We use common household products and toys for our props to show the kids that, by using your imagination, you can make theater magic anywhere, with anything.”
