Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Toy Box Theatre will present a children’s play, “Folk Tales From the Toy Box,” at 6:30 p.m. April 29 in the Science Auditorium on the Elizabethtown Campus. Admission is $2; children 3 and younger are free.

Directed by Katrina Eicher, professor of communication and theater, the play is a comedic telling of four American folk heroes: Sal Fink, Bess Call, Pecos Bill and Annie Oakley. Children from the audience will interact with the actors, and adults will have plenty to entertain them. The production lasts about 45 minutes.

“The goal of Toy Box Theatre is to encourage imagination in our young audiences,” Eicher said. “We use common household products and toys for our props to show the kids that, by using your imagination, you can make theater magic anywhere, with anything.”

The Toy Box Theatre was started at Elizabethtown Community College in 1998 by Eicher. The cast is comprised of college students, many first-time actors, who enroll in the class to gain performance experience and reach out to the community.

Many area elementary schools travel to the campus to enjoy a daytime performance during a field trip. In the 24 shows presented thus far, the Toy Box Theatre’s actors have played to over 11,500 people. Any questions can be directed to Eicher at 270-706-8536 or katrina.eicher@kctcs.edu.
