ECTC announces winners of North Central Kentucky Spelling Bowl

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College hosted the 58th Annual North Central Kentucky Spelling Bowl on April 25 at the college.

Students representing primary, elementary and middle schools from 12 surrounding counties were invited to compete in the primary match for first and second grades, the elementary match for third through fifth grades or the middle school match for sixth through eighth grades.

"We are so proud to host the spelling bowl. It is a great way to support academic competition and give back to our community," said ECTC faculty member Beverly Dile, who coordinates the event. "We want to thank each of the 39 spellers who participated this year." 

The winners of the primary match are: first place, Riley Bahl from G. C. Burkhead Elementary; second place, Rory Boyett from Heartland Elementary; third place, Aaron Ferguson from Creekside Elementary; fourth place, Lucy Brewer from Taylor County Primary Center; and fifth place, Austin Carter from Meadow View Elementary.

The winners of the elementary match are: first place, Jackson Rollins from Saint James Catholic School; second place, Lincoln Strader from Helmwood Heights Elementary; third place, Bradyn Garth from Heartland Elementary; fourth place, Mateo Japitana from Morningside Elementary; and fifth place, Jackson Wibbels from Woodland Elementary.

The winners of the middle school match are: first place, Alison Villasenor from Saint James Catholic School; second place, Anisha Ramkissoon from East Hardin Middle School; third place, Taliah Brougton from North Middle School; fourth place, Shawn Lee from Green County Middle School; and fifth place, Ava Downs from Marion County Middle School.

The top five winners in each match were presented individual trophies; the first-place winner in each match received a $50 gift card; the first-place school in each match received a trophy; and all contestants received certificates of participation and medallions. Abound Credit Union sponsored the spelling bowl.

The spelling bowl was coordinated by Beverly Dile. Dean of the Division of Fine Arts and Humanities Jacqueline Hawkins served as pronouncer. Judges for the event included MeLeah Hicks, Carla Hornback, Doug Cole, Dr. Megen Boyett, Dr. John Davis and Dr. John Dryden. All are faculty members at ECTC.
