ECTC adds practical nursing diploma at Leitchfield campus
Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will offer a practical nursing diploma at its Leitchfield campus starting in August, responding to workforce needs for licensed
practical nurses.
“The practical nursing program is a welcome addition to our campus,” said Cindy Carman,
administrative coordinator of ECTC’s Leitchfield campus. “Our faculty and staff are
excited to help aspiring nurses who want to start their careers faster, and we’re
very proud to play a key role in developing the workforce that Grayson County employers
need to be successful.”
The one-year program will include the college’s fall and spring semester as well as
a nursing-specific summer session.
“Practical nursing is a great option for those who want to enter the nursing workforce
and improve their earnings sooner,” said Practical Nursing Faculty Lead Tabitha Stevenson.
“Our region is not excluded from the nationwide shortage of LPNs, so we are especially
excited to provide students a new pathway to a rewarding nursing career.”
Noting that an aging population has increased demand for LPNs, Stevenson said graduates
may work in long-term care facilities, physicians’ offices, home health, clinics and
other healthcare settings. Additionally, LPNs often continue their education and become
registered nurses.
The first practical nursing cohort will include 10 students. In 2026, the program
will grow to 20 students.
ECTC nursing is a selective admissions program, and applicants must complete prerequisite
classes and attend a pre-admission conference before applying. For Fall 2025, conferences
are June 18 and July 1, and the application deadline is July 14.
