TRIO SSS grant expands services to ECTC Leitchfield and Springfield campuses

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College recently earned a $1.3 million TRIO Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand services to the college’s Leitchfield and Springfield campuses.

“We know that sometimes the hardest thing for students who need TRIO services is just asking for help,” said ECTC TRIO SSS Director Breanna Phillips. “By offering a program at our extended campuses, students will have much easier access to our services.”

TRIO SSS serves first-generation, low-income students. It provides individualized services such as one-on-one tutoring, guidance through the educational process, academic counseling, transfer assistance, visits to four-year universities and more. The project’s goals are to increase retention and graduation rates among participants.

The grant will enable ECTC to hire a program director who will have a presence at the Springfield and Leitchfield campuses. It also allows for a tutor at each campus and an administrative assistant.

“By earning this grant, we can expand our reach,” Phillips said. “We look forward to providing TRIO’s meaningful services to even more students and helping them on their path to success.”
