ECTC’s Toy Box Theatre takes its final bow

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Toy Box Theatre will present its final show, a collection of stories by Dr. Seuss, at 6:30 p.m. April 28 in the Science Auditorium at the Elizabethtown campus.

“Seuss-a-Rama,” directed by ECTC’s retiring communication and theater professor Katrina Eicher, is a collection of Dr. Seuss tales related to the theme “be the best of whatever you are.” Audiences of all ages will enjoy watching these family-friendly classics come to life on stage. The show is approximately 45 minutes long.

Toy Box Theatre was established in 1998 and is presenting its 26th production (there were a couple of missed years). The cast is made up of college students, many first-time actors, who enrolled in the class to gain performance experience and reach out to the community. Many area elementary schools have traveled to the campus to enjoy a performance during a field trip, as is the case for two daytime performances this year.

“During its long, rich history, Toy Box Theatre has performed for over 11,800 people,” Eicher said. “Our goal is to encourage imagination in our young audiences. We use common household products and toys for our props to show the kids that, by using your imagination, you can make theater magic anywhere, with anything.”

Eicher noted the evening performance is open to all, and she especially encourages former actors, audience members and supporters to take in the final show, browse the scrapbooks from past performances and share their Toy Box Theatre memories.

Admission is $2. All children ages 3 and under are free.
