Additional duty: Pate named interim leader at Maysville Community and Technical College

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Chancellor Dr. Juston Pate will serve as the interim chancellor of Maysville Community and Technical College throughout a national search for MCTC’s next chancellor, Kentucky Community and Technical College System officials announced today.

Pate will work closely with college leadership teams and maintain a regular presence at both institutions while supporting MCTC through the transition.

“Dr. Pate is an experienced and respected leader within our system who understands Maysville Community and Technical College, the communities it serves and the important role the college plays throughout the region,” Quarles said. “His familiarity with MCTC, combined with his strong record of leadership and commitment to student success, will provide stability and focused leadership during this transition. I am grateful for his willingness to serve both colleges and support the students, faculty and staff of MCTC.”

Pate has led ECTC since 2017. Since then, ECTC’s student success metrics have grown across all categories, including a steady increase in graduation rates from 31% when he arrived to over 59% in 2025. Pate has led ECTC to move to an eight-week schedule, partner to build a residential complex for student parents struggling with housing insecurity, develop the college’s foundation, establish the ECTC Robbins University Center and centralize student support services.

“It’s a privilege to support MCTC students, faculty, staff and community during this important transition, and I am looking forward to working alongside them,” Pate said. “I also am humbled by the quality of ECTC’s faculty, staff and leadership team, which allows for helping another KCTCS college. It’s truly a team effort at ECTC, and the college is moving forward as planned, from major construction projects to our focus on post-graduation student success.”

Earlier in his career with KCTCS, Pate served as provost at MCTC as well as interim president at Hazard Community and Technical College. As interim chancellor, he cannot apply for the permanent post at MCTC.

The national leadership search for MCTC is expected to launch this fall. Additional information about the search will be announced as the process moves forward.
