Success Coaches

The Student Success Hub at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College houses the Goal Getter Program. Goal Getters are students who work with an assigned Success Coach for one semester to create and achieve short-term academic goals - like passing a class, getting more involved on campus, raising their GPA, starting a club, creating and developing a resume, charting an academic path, and achieving goals at ECTC and beyond.

Success coaches will work with you throughout the semester to set an academic goal and then work toward achieving that goal through weekly check-ins, workshops, and comprehensive wrap-around support. We'll be with you each step of the way to develop learning strategies, establish healthy study habits, cultivate soft skills, build a campus support system, and so much more.

It's never too early or too late to get started with the Goal Getter Program. We take a student-centered, step-by-step approach to meet all students where they are on their current academic path. From students who attend college immediately after high school to adult learners returning to school, success coaching will equip you with skills necessary to achieve your academic and non-academic goals.

Learn More About Success Coaching

Soft Skills are non-technical skills that relate to how you work and learn. They include how you interact with other people, solve problems, and manage time and tasks. Many of us take soft skills for granted, but they are very important for your success. You can learn and practice soft skills in class, at work, and by engaging with others. These skills will help you achieve goals throughout life. Soft Skills include people skills, communication skills, listening skills, time management, problem-solving, leadership, empathy, and more.

Setting realistic attainable goals can feel overwhelming - where do you start? Your Success Coach will guide you through a tried-and-true method for setting goals you'll be able to achieve in one semester. Learning to set and track these small victories will provide you with the skills necessary to achieve long-term academic success.

Success in college requires obtaining and improving crucial skills - note-taking, self-management, critical thinking, and more. Your Success Coach will assess your current skill level in key areas of college success and create a plan of action that facilitates continuous improvement so you can tackle challenging assignments and exams with ease.

A key to accomplishing self-efficacy is the belief students can take ownership of their learning. Research proposes that self-efficacy can boost student achievement, promote emotional well-being, and serve as a catalyst in motivation and learning. Your Success Coach will help you take ownership of your educational and career goals through devised personalized plan of action to build the confidence, motivation, and resilience to succeed.

College is full of obstacles, and no one masters their assignments or exams on the first try; to obtain long-term success, you must cultivate a growth mindset. Your Success Coach will guide you through the basic principles of a growth mindset and provide resources to help you see challenges as opportunities so you can persist to graduation!

A healthy work-life balance improves your focus, productivity, and performance. Students learning how to prioritize and balance classes, family obligations, social lives, and jobs remain important in furthering education. Networking simply means connecting with other people. Networking is beneficial to both individuals, and helps them build a stronger support network, increase visibility, develop a positive reputation, and make more impactful connections. The Hub can help you network with others by organizing speakers to present interesting information, helping students get involved in extracurriculars, providing community service opportunities, and helping students connect with other services on campus that can help you achieve goals.
