What are the Admissions Requirements?
Prospective students who are age 17 or older as of the first day of class are eligible to apply. The Greater Knox coding academy has selective admission. Because a limited number of students can enroll and would likely be competing for positions that require security clearances, applicants must pass a background check and will be ranked by several factors including aptitude test scores, grade point averages and performance at pre-admissions interview.
Applicants must take three aptitude tests to be considered for the academy:
- The TABE exam
- KYOTE math aptitude test
- CompTIA Fundamentals assessment
Each test takes approximately one hour. All tests can be taken at the ECTC testing center at total cost of $67.
Applicants who meet the aptitude testing requirements will be invited to interview. Interviews are currently being scheduled the week of December 16 and January 6. If there are still open seats a third round of interviews will be scheduled before the January 20 application deadline.
Due to the intensive format of the program, students must be committed to this immersive experience and absences are not permitted. Non-refundable course fee of $2,500 will cover the cost of the course, materials, and certification exam fees. Lunch will be provided daily at no additional charge. For students enrolled in area high schools, they will need to work with their school districts to determine their eligibility requirements for the program and necessary arrangements for travel. This program is not eligible for most traditional forms of financial aid.
After-hours tutoring will be available to give students every opportunity to succeed in the program. Students who pass all tests and assessments are eligible to earn 19 hours of college credit. Upon completion of the Academy, students will have the opportunity to interview for employment with defense contractors.
